Disappointed

Overall it did not go well with this contractor. First there was some communication problems as far as getting rid of my power vents and getting a ridge cap. Had I not come home when I did they would've left the vents in and probably not installed the ridge cap. Then they installed a white drip edge. My home is stone with light brown flashing and I would've thought they would have installed either black or try to match the light brown. Then they installed my flashing incorrectly on the side of my house. Also the flashing under my dormers was done very poorly. They didn't use a break and the flashing looked as if in was bent over someones knee then installed on my roof. Luckily I have been in the new construction business for 11 years or so and was able to catch the screw ups/short cuts. The flashing was basically glued to the side of my home and looked terrible. My roof was subbed out to another contractor and when I said something about the flashing I was told that the guy that did it wasn't a roofer more of a drywaller. I wasn't to thrilled about the fact that I had someone participating in the installation of my roof that wasn't skilled in that particular trade. We noticed we had leaks after the first big rain around the chimney and around a vent stack which damaged the drywall ceiling in both locations. They came and fixed the leaks, eventually. So now I had two damaged drywall ceilings. I took me 17 phone calls over a two and a half month span to get them to come out and fix the hole I had in my ceiling. As if that wasn't bad enough they told me on three separate occasions that some one would be at my home to fix the drywall and NO ONE showed up. I would call and leave messages and they would never return my calls. Finally they sent a guy out to fix the drywall and paint (and he actually showed up). He fixed some of the drywall, put one coat of paint on the ceilings and wall and told me that if the colors don't match that he would have to paint the whole ceiling and walls. I moved into this home about a year ago and the previous owners had some cans of paint in the basement but ended up not being the correct colors. The colors didn't match so I purchased 100$ of paint. The drywall guy informed me he would be back next Saturday to finish the drywall and finish the painting. There is a spot just above the fireplace mantle that need to be fixed(drywall) and a spot in the dining room that bubbled(drywall) as well as two stains that are still visible. The following Friday I contacted the drywall/paint guy to verify that he was going be here Saturday morning as we had previously discussed to finish the job. When I spoke to him he informed me that Charles(the owner of Mid America) was not going to fix anything else and his only intention was to patch the large hole with drywall and that's it. He said he could still come over but that I would have to pay for him. In the signed contract I have with Mid America there is a Five Year Guarantee of Craftsmanship Warranty. I called Charles immediately after speaking with the drywall guy and his phone went straight to voice mail. I called a bit later and he actually answered and hung up on me. I called again and left a message asking him to call me. He never called, I called again the next leaving yet another message and have not heard from him. I filed a complaint with the BBB and they have yet to respond to that. This contractor had an A rating with the BBB before I chose them to install my roof. I have no idea how they received the A rating considering my experience. I think they might have their friends or relatives post positive reviews...? Coincidentally, I posted my negative review of Mid America on AngiesList (there were zero reviews for Mid America at the time of my post) and wouldn't you know it a couple days later they had an A+ positive review right after mine. I would absolutely not recommend this contractor to anyone. I filed a complaint with the BBB (with high hopes) and they did NOTHING. They basically told me that they can not make the company come fix their mistake and my complaint was closed after waiting several months. I notice that Mid America still has an A rating and are also still accredited. I personally had a horrible experience with Mid America and am left having to pay to fix what they destroyed.
